Blue Islands Sponsor Street Academy Website

Street Academy offers breakdancing, beat-boxing, dj-ing, singing and music lessons, amongst other activities, to Guernsey’s 14-25 year olds. The project was conceptualised by James Turner, 20, who wanted to encourage young people to stop ‘hanging around’ the streets and take part in more fulfilling activities.

He has now given up his job to work full time on the project and, as a keen dj himself, already has a good network of contacts. He believes the success of the project will come from him being able to relate to those who will be using his services.

A café, gym, pool tables, social lounge and computer room are also in the pipeline, making it a place where young people can chill out and catch up with friends, as well as take part in the other activities. Street Academy certainly has their sights set high, but these are just the beginnings of what they hope will be a long-lasting institution for Guernsey’s vibrant youth population. Blue Islands, along with Wave Telecom, HSBC and Schroders, jumped at the chance to sponsor the new website and support a venture that will give something to the young people of Guernsey. Paul Sabin, Managing Director of Blue Islands, said:

“Blue Islands is proud to sponsor the new Guernsey Youth Project. Such entrepreneurial and artistic spirit is essential for the future of a small island economy. Everybody associated with the project has every right to be proud of their achievements.”

Blue Islands looks forward to seeing the progress of what we’re sure will be a successful endeavour. More information can be found on www.streetacademy.gg
