Blue Islands and The Channel Islands Travel group to offer a new weekly direct charter service from Glasgow to Guernsey throughout the summer. Holidaymakers in and around the Glasgow area can now enjoy Guernsey in just two hours and popularity was demonstrated on the full first flight.

"With a direct, weekly service we are hoping to be able to attract holidaymakers of all ages who will be able to enjoy all that Guernsey has to offer. In just two hours they can be somewhere with a continental feel with lots of top quality restaurants and breath-taking scenery" said Robert Mackenzie, managing director of the Channel Islands Travel Group.

Rob Veron, Blue Islands' managing director added "Boosting tourism is important for our islands and these charter services do just that during the summer months. We're delighted to be working with our travel partners to make it even easier for more tourists to enjoy our wonderful Channel Islands."

Commerce and Employment minister Kevin Stewart said everyone in Guernsey tourism welcomed this initiative "This opens up an excellent opportunity for the island to market itself to the Scottish community that can now put Guernsey on their holiday shopping list as a very convenient and attractive option."

In keeping with aviation tradition, the inaugural flight of the 46-seat, twin turboprop aircraft was greeted in Guernsey by a water cannon salute. The weekly service will run every Saturday until 14 September 2013.

The Channel Islands Travel Group is offering holiday packages to Scottish visitors, however there are a limited number of seats available for those wishing to travel from Guernsey to Glasgow which can be booked here.
