Rob Veron leads the team to victory again in the second Kitchen Inferno event

Managing Director Rob Veron was once again the victorious Blue team Captain in Jersey's Kitchen Inferno event, in association with Shaun Rankin and Ormer. This second Kitchen Inferno event raised funds for the Jersey Cheshire Home and was once again a sell-out affair with the coveted 70 spaces sold out in hours.

Gourmet Standard was the expectation from the 14 novice chefs from the competing Red and Blue teams. Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin designed the menus that included some of Ormer's most technically challenging dishes. The two teams had just one month to train before the head-to-head cook off in the Highlands Academy Kitchen.

The Red team, captained by First Names Group Managing Director, Cengiz Somay, fought impressively in the kitchen, but the Blue team gained more points on the evening based on presentation, taste and flavour, team work and organisation and cleanliness.

"Kitchen Inferno 2014 was tough; we upped the number of diners and we gave the teams a complex menu from Ormer but they completely rose to the challenge. The Blue Islands team was victorious on the night, winning both the diners' and my vote - but there was not a lot in it and the First Names team was hot on their heels! The fundraising and generosity was phenomenal and I know it means a great deal to Jersey Cheshire Home. Congratulations must go to both teams and their team leaders Rob Veron and Cengiz Somay."

This was the second time Rob Veron had taken part in the event and he was keen to be involved once more to defend his team's winning title from last year.

"Cooking has always been a passion of mine, so to learn more from Shaun and work under the pressure of a live service with a fantastic team was a thoroughly enjoyable experience!"

The evening raised funds for the Jersey Cheshire Home, a local charity that looks after severely disabled adults and costs £5000 per day to run. It relies heavily on local fundraising, as it is only part-funded by the States of Jersey. Over the next two years the Home needs to raise £300,000 to refurbish the hydrotherapy pool.
