Blue Islands, the Jersey-based airline, has suspended operations with immediate effect and is considering its options.

All Blue Islands flights have been cancelled.  Passengers expecting to fly should not go to the airport unless they have made alternative travel arrangements with another airline.  For those with Blue Islands reservations:

  • For bookings made directly with Blue Islands, please contact your bank or provider of the payment card used to make the booking;
  • For bookings made through our codeshare partner Aurigny but travelling on a Blue Islands flight, please contact Aurigny directly – some flights may still be operating;
  • For bookings made through a travel agent or holiday company, please contact the company through whom you booked for advice and guidance.

“After 26 years of serving the Channel Islands, we deeply regret that Blue Islands has this evening suspended its operations,” said a spokesperson.  “After very constructive dialogue with Government of Jersey in recent months, including what we understood to have been ongoing assessments of the future options, we were informed this afternoon that they are unable to provide further support.  This has meant that we now need to suspend flying immediately whilst we consider the options available and how we can help our customers, staff and stakeholders.”

11th year of welcoming Swiss visitors to the Channel Islands

Summer 2019 will mark the 11th year of Swiss visitors enjoying the Channel Islands, as Blue Islands has once again been chosen by leading Swiss tour operator Rolf Meier Reisen to operate its 18-week charter services from Zurich to Jersey and Guernsey.

Walter Fink, Rolf Meier Reisen Director said

With a long relationship that started in 2008, we know Blue Islands will deliver an excellent service for our guests thanks to its unique position as a true Channel Islands operator, providing a flexible and bespoke service to meet our requirements. The 68-seat ATR 72 aircraft is optimal for our market and with bases in Guernsey and Jersey we are able to offer holiday products to both islands meaning even more choice for our customers.

Rob Veron, Blue Islands CEO commented,

As a Channel Islands based airline, partnering with specialist tour operators serving niche markets that want to visit Guernsey and Jersey are essential to the visitor economy and reinforces our commitment to the rejuvenation of our tourism industry.

The charter service will operate over an 18-week period on Saturdays between 11 May and 7 September 2019 with flights departing Zurich to Jersey with onward connections to Guernsey. Return flights will depart Jersey, briefly stopping to collect guests staying in Guernsey before continuing to Zurich.

Mr Veron added

We’re delighted to have once again been chosen by Rolf Meier Reisen and look forward to welcoming more Swiss visitors to discover our beautiful islands for the 2019 season.

As well as the inbound flights from Zurich, summer 2019 will see Blue Islands operate series charter services into the Channel Islands from Germany, Rotterdam and Groningen for 14, 22 and eight-week periods respectively.
