Blue Islands, the Jersey-based airline, has suspended operations with immediate effect and is considering its options.

All Blue Islands flights have been cancelled.  Passengers expecting to fly should not go to the airport unless they have made alternative travel arrangements with another airline.  For those with Blue Islands reservations:

  • For bookings made directly with Blue Islands, please contact your bank or provider of the payment card used to make the booking;
  • For bookings made through our codeshare partner Aurigny but travelling on a Blue Islands flight, please contact Aurigny directly – some flights may still be operating;
  • For bookings made through a travel agent or holiday company, please contact the company through whom you booked for advice and guidance.

“After 26 years of serving the Channel Islands, we deeply regret that Blue Islands has this evening suspended its operations,” said a spokesperson.  “After very constructive dialogue with Government of Jersey in recent months, including what we understood to have been ongoing assessments of the future options, we were informed this afternoon that they are unable to provide further support.  This has meant that we now need to suspend flying immediately whilst we consider the options available and how we can help our customers, staff and stakeholders.”

Twice weekly flights from Jersey to France this summer

blue islands launches new rennes service

Islanders can enjoy direct flights to France this summer as Blue Islands launches a new twice weekly service from Jersey to Rennes. Located in the beautiful Brittany region of France, Rennes Airport provides easy access to the surrounding area with a flight time of just 40 minutes.

Rob Veron, CEO Blue Islands said, “Our twice weekly service to France this summer is an exciting addition to our Jersey network. As well as being a wonderful city to discover, with car hire, bus and TGV connections, Rennes is an ideal gateway to France.”

Commencing 20 June 2022, the initial 12-week series of flights will operate on Monday and Friday afternoons, perfect for flexible 3-night weekend breaks, 2-week holidays, or longer stays to make the most of your holiday home or rented gîte. It is also possible to fly from Guernsey with a short connection in Jersey. Blue Islands will continually review demand, adding additional flights if required.

Matt Thomas, CEO for Ports of Jersey has welcomed the news, commenting, “Building connectivity into Europe is a tremendous opportunity for the Island. We are thrilled that a direct air link to Rennes has been announced today.

“We would like to thank Blue Islands, the team at Rennes Airport and the Chambers for their support. Now we all need to get behind this service to ensure it’s a success and continues beyond the initial 12-week summer schedule.”

Not only is Rennes the perfect access point for holidays in Brittany, with high-speed TGV trains you can be in Paris in around 90 minutes. Just take a short 20-minute bus from the airport to the city centre for the TGV train station.

Flights to Rennes are available to book now with fares from £39.99 one way including 23kg hold luggage, generous hand baggage allowance and carbon offset contribution as standard.
